NTUC Fairprice is probably the last major retailer in Singapore to finally accept credit cards at all its outlets.
Starting 28 May 2011, NTUC has allowed payments to be made via major credit cards at all 105 NTUC stores. Minimum charge of 10% applies.
Previously, only NTUC Plus Visa credit cards are accepted at NTUC Fairprice outlets. The Plus Visa cards (co-branded with OCBC) are however only open to application by Union members.
Cold Storage started offering credit cards as a mode of payment since 2009, while Sheng Shiong followed suit in 2010 and Shop N Save since Jan 2011.
MayBank Cash Rebate
Separately, Maybank has been running a 5% cash rebate program on its Family & Friends Platinum Mastercard at selected NTUC stores (and all Cold Storage stores). Now with Fairprice's widespread acceptance of credit cards, Maybank's rebate program appears to have been extended to all NTUC stores.
This rebate program only runs till 31 Dec 2011 and rebates are capped at $600 in the 2011 calendar year (thereafter rebates are 0.5%).
